Raising Ataxia awareness at Cleveland ADA Day

Yesterday there here were about 20 organizations with info tables and a couple thousand people at Cleveland ADA Day and Wade Oval Wednesdays down in University Circle which is a cool weekly summer party where there are food trucks and a band and an outdoor movie.

The weather was great yesterday, like mid 80s n sunny, then a nice breeze as the evening came on

We had free face painting at the our Ataxia group table and we raised some good Ataxia awareness among attendees and made some connections with other ADA organizations

2019 NEO Walk n' Roll to Cure Ataxia volunteers needed

We could use some volunteers to help us set up and tear down at the 2019 NEO Walk n' Roll to Cure Ataxia at Lakewood Park on Sept 22. Group members have trouble walking and rely on help to move things. If you can volunteer some time please mark it on your calendar and help us out to raise money to help local residents with Ataxia and raise Ataxia awareness. Cleveland ADA Day has been rescheduled for August 7th at Wade Oval in University Circle Cleveland. The National Ataxia Foundation Northeast Ohio area support group will be participating with an information table, providing awareness about Ataxia and promoting the upcoming 2019 Walk n' Roll to Cure Ataxia. After being cancelled because of weather, Cleveland ADA Day has been rescheduled to Aug. 7, the National Ataxia Foundation Northeast Ohio area support group is going to have an information table at ADA Day,mark it on your calendar and join us.

WEATHER NOTE from the ADA Day organizers: ADA Day and WOW! are “rain or shine” events. The forecast suggests that we have a fair chance of some rain, but scattered. We rent tents for this very reason. Come prepared for weather and we will make the best of any situation! We will have extra garbage bags for makeshift ponchos and baggies at the info tent if needed to protect power wheelchair controls. We will also have a number of tarps on hand. In my humble opinion, one of the most important aspects of accessibility is the mindset to overcome obstacles, including the weather. Of course, attendance for consumers and self-advocates is also a personal decision based on many factors, and we certainly respect an individual’s decision not to attend.
