National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) Cleveland Area Support Group Will Meet May 30th Group members to start planning 2017 Northeast Ohio Walk n’ Roll to Cure Ataxia

For Immediate Release:
National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) Cleveland Area Support Group Will Meet May 30th
Group members to start planning 2017 Northeast Ohio Walk n’ Roll to Cure Ataxia
NORTHEAST OHIO –Members of the National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) Cleveland area support group - http://ataxiafoundationcleveland.blogspot.com – will meet in May and begin planning details and a kickoff event for the 2017 Northeast Ohio Walk n’ Roll to Cure Ataxia.

The NAF Cleveland area support group is a group that anyone with Ataxia, or affected by Ataxia or a similar neuromuscular disease, can join for resources and discussions. The group usually meets monthly in a Cuyahoga County Library or in a restaurant for social events. The NAF Cleveland area support group was organized two years ago by Carmen Pieragastini and his wife Virginia (Ginger) who live in Willowick. The support group has around 20 regular members from Fairview to Euclid to Mansfield and everywhere in between.

According to the NAF website the word ataxia means without coordination. People with ataxia have problems with coordination because parts of the nervous system that control movement and balance are affected. Ataxia may affect the fingers, hands, arms, legs, body, speech, and eye movements. The word ataxia is often used to describe a symptom of incoordination which can be associated with infections, injuries, other diseases, or degenerative changes in the central nervous system. Ataxia is also used to denote a group of specific degenerative diseases of the nervous system called the hereditary and sporadic ataxias which are the National Ataxia Foundation’s primary emphases.

The NAF Cleveland area support group will meet May 30th at 6:30 p.m. at the Maple Heights Library, 5225 Library Ln. in Maple Heights Ohio, to share thoughts and ideas on the planning of the 2017 Northeast Ohio Walk n’ Roll to Cure Ataxia on August 27, 2017 at Edgewater Park in Cleveland.

In August of 2016, the NAF Cleveland area support group organized the 2016 Northeast Ohio Walk n’ Roll to Cure Ataxia at the Keystone Pavilion of the Cleveland Metroparks, West Creek Reservation in Parma, Ohio. The event was sponsored by the Pipe Line Development Co. (PLIDCO) of Westlake, OH and attended by about 100 people. More than $12,500 was raised for the NAF and there were prizes auctioned off from the Cleveland Browns, the Lake Erie Monsters, ROAD ID, Levin Furniture, Olmsted Performing Arts and more.
